Except for having some gun issues (thanks Wayne for helping me out) and the weather not fully cooperating, yesterday was a blast. My first game since 24hourgames toys for tots '04.
My thanks for everyone there making my son's (Timmy) first game so much fun for him. He asked me about 6 times on the way home when was the next game going to be and what time would it start.
The Good: The players that were there, lots of stand up play. I don't think I saw once case of wiping. The proshop is great, having a real bathroom to use was very nice. The field for the most part was great....except for the cowpies. ;D The ref's were great. The turnout was pretty good for only the second game. Hopefully it will double for the next game.
NOthing was really bad so I'm going to call it
The improvements needed: The bases, I know it takes money, and ya'll are continuously expanding the field, but for the next game how about a 8x8 command center for each main base. Five 10' 4x4's sunk 3 ft into the ground, 4 on each corner, and one extra for the doorway, plywood around the bottom, one 12' 4x4 in the middle of the room for the apex of the netting you wrap the thing in. or if you dont want to use plywood, just get some treated 1x6x8 to tie everything together with. It shouldn't cost but about $100 or so per base if you use the 1x6's. Later on when ya'll expand again they can be turned in to communcation posts or something.
The field netting needs to be secured, at one time during the game while I was on the field the netting was blown on top of the old base that is clode to the netting leaving a 10 to 12 foot opeing to the parking area that cold have had an impact on someone getting hurt.
Countdown for the final battle: I heard "5 minutes" then "5.4.3.2.1". A little more of a countdown, maybe calling out each minute down from five would have been greatly appreciated. I took way too much paint home.
Overall a fantastic game except for our general getting killed so much. Next time i'll take over the General's spot if needed, Woody doesn't make a good one.
